Mountainview Arts Society - Global Drums Concert

Join us on Thursday, May 3rd and experience the energy of the U of L Global Drums! This powerful ensemble of percussionists, comprised of both community and student members, presents the world to its audiences, in the form of Caribbean samba, steel band, Brazilian, Taiko, African, Polynesian, Chinese and chamber percussion styles. The Didsbury High School Symphonic Winds Band will also perform as part of this exciting concert.

Tickets are $15 per person. Be sure to get them early! You can easily get them securely online through the MVAS Box Office at A few tickets will be available at the high school, so if you're "old school", you can get your tickets in person.

The Carstairs AG Society and Horticultural and Craft Show Committee will host a second workshop called “Perennials in Central Alberta 101” on Saturday, May 5th at the Carstairs Curling Club.  Theresa Zerr, an Alberta Horticultural Association certified judge, will speak and demonstrate selecting healthy perennials, soil pH and preparation, working with your landscape conditions, root structures, dividing, and succession of bloom. Date is Saturday May 5th at the Carstairs Curling Club on 11th Ave.  Time is 10 am to 1:30 pm.  Cost is $25. Lunch will be available for purchase or bring a brown bag lunch. Please join us Saturday, May 5th for the Fun-Raisers Benefit Dance for the Special Olympics & Graysen Cameron. The dance starts at 7 pm and the evening lunch is at 9:30 pm, all at the Evergreen Centre in Olds. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will be divided between Special Olympics Olds and Graysen Cameron, who was injured in the Humboldt Broncos bus collision.

Music is by the Fun-Raisers, so join us for a fun evening of dancing, singing, yodeling, silent auctions and door prizes!

This will be part of their May Monarch Fundraising Program. All community members are invited to come to the cemetery on this day to give us a hand.

Join us at Elkton Valley Campground on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 from 11 am to 3 pm for the 10th Annual Family Fund Day. There will be displays of information available during the whole event on bear and cougar biology and safety; how to identify black bear, grizzly bear, cougar, wolves and coyotes from their skulls, paw prints, claws and hides. Wildlife biologists will be available to answer any questions. There will be a free hot dog lunch and the crafts for the kids start around 12:30 pm and continue for the afternoon. There will also be outdoor demonstrations (how to use bear spray as a deterrent, etc.); and a Treasure Hunt for the kids, weather permitting.

Debra deWaal is a former Calgary Police Officer and is now the owner of Safe & Sound Safety Training & Consulting Ltd. Debra's 10 year career with CPS included 3 years undercover work in auto theft, stolen property and vice. Debra also spent numerous years working on the street as a uniformed officer. Debra is a professional member of Canadian Association of Professional Speakers and has been developing and facilitating Mental Toughness, Personal Safety and Conflict Management Training to Canadian citizens since 1995.
