Mountain View County Council has scheduled a Special Council Meeting for Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 9 a.m., to consider second and third reading for two bylaws pertaining to a motorsports park application in rural Carstairs.
One of the bylaws would redesignate the land-use on the nearly four quarter sections of land southeast of the QE II Highway and Highway 581 intersection (east of the Town of Carstairs) to Direct Control from its current Agricultural District zoning.
The other bylaw would amend the Wessex Area Structure Plan to include a portion of the area in question.
Council set the special meeting during their recent March 8, 2017 regular Council meeting.
The special meeting is for Council to consider whether to grant second and third reading, and is not a public hearing. The public hearing for this application has been closed.
The application by Rocky Mountain Motorsports previously came before Council on October 26, 2016; and December 14, 2016. Both hearing dates were well attended by the public with the majority of presenters in opposition to the proposed project.
Updates on progress of the reports required by Council were provided by Planning and Development Services staff during regular Council meetings on January 11, February 8 and 22, and March 8.
Outstanding reports required by administration and Council have now been received and accepted by administration. Those reports will be used by Council in its consideration of further readings of the proposed bylaws.
The application is for a two-phase development of a motorsports facility that would offer motor vehicle racing, and driver training among other proposed uses. Driving tracks, parking areas, paddocks and garages
