Mountain View County has developed a Traffic Safety Plan Calendar.
Each month Mountain View County Patrol will focus on different traffic priorities. The calendar was developed using Mountain View County Traffic Safety Plan, Provincial collision information and Policy #6003 – Policy for Policing/Bylaw Priorities.
While focusing on the Priority of the Month remember other traffic safety will not be ignored.
For January: Intersection Safety.
According to the Alberta Government there are nearly 35,000 collisions at intersections.
What must a driver do at an intersection?
- Stop signs: come to a complete stop a t the stop line or if there is no line you must stop within 3 m of the intersecting roadway and may proceed as soon as it is safe to do so. Failing to stop can result in a $388 fine a and 3 demerits.
- Yield sign: slow down when approaching and be prepared to stop to allow pedestrians or vehicles without a yield sign to go first. You must yield.
- Uncontrolled intersection: slow down so you can stop if needed. Remember the vehicle to the right has the right of way.
- Intersecting roadway: when entering an intersecting roadway you are required to stop unless there is a yield sign or the intersecting traffic has a stop sign or red light.
Keep focused on driving and use extra care at intersections.
Next month: Distracted Driving.
