Mountain View County has developed a Traffic Safety Plan Calendar.

Each month Mountain View County Patrol will focus on different traffic priorities. The calendar was developed using Mountain View County Traffic Safety Plan, Provincial collision information and Policy #6003 – Policy for Policing/Bylaw Priorities.

While focusing on the Priority of the Month remember other traffic safety will not be ignored.

For February: Distracted Driving.

When someone mentions distracted driving the first thing people think of is cell phones, well there is more to it.

Distracted driving is defined as an activity that distracts the driver from the safe operation of a vehicle. Activities can include but not limited to reading, grooming, writing, holding, viewing or manipulating electronic devices i.e. cameras, computers, tablets and of course the viewing, holding, manipulating of cell phones and GPS.

Drivers intending to do any activities that take away from the safe operations of a vehicle are required that they are safely and legally parked.

P.S.; stopping along the road is not legally parked and may not be safe either.

Penalty for distracted driving is $287 and 3 demerits.

Remember there was a time before cell phones, GPS and computers and things still got done.

Next month: Occupant Restraints.
