Shelterbelts
Shelterbelts and tree plantings are a proven soil conservation management tool. Trees are available to County farmers at no charge via the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act (PFRA) program under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. We also have a plastic tree mulch applicator for use through PFRA at no charge. Plastic mulch can be obtained from private manufacturers.
- Visit the federal Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration Shelterbelt Centre homepage here.
You may also purchase trees from Alberta Nursery in Bowden (Tel: 403-224-3544) under the PFRA Shelterbelt Program.
The County has a tree-planter and staff available to assist with planting. This can be rented at $ 65 per hour (approximately 500 trees can be planted per hour depending on spacing and planting conditions). To reserve use of the tree-planter, please call the County office at 403-335-3311 during regular business hours, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
