Shared Services

Delivering rate payer value is a responsibility we take seriously. One of the ways we ensure exceptional services at value driven costs, is by taking a collaborative approach to service delivery with our urban partners. For example, fire department costs are shared on a population ratio (% rural versus % urban) by the County and our urban centres.

Policing

Mountain View County is served by RCMP detachments which are located at Didsbury, Olds and Sundre. For more information on the scope and depth of RCMP services in Mountain View County, please visit www.rcmp.ca.

County Patrol

Supplementing the primary policing of the RCMP are enhanced services provided by the County Patrol Division’s Patrol Officers. Both organizations work collaboratively to ensure the safety and security of ratepayers.

Mountain View County Patrol Officers are appointed as Community Peace Officers by the Alberta Solicitor General. County Patrol is mandated to investigate and enforce Provincial laws like the Traffic Control Act and associated regulations like the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Control Act and the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act. As well, the enforcement of Mountain View County Bylaws is the responsibility of the Patrol Division according to the Municipal Government Act.

Road Bans/Restricted Bridge Lists

Through proactive education and enforcement initiatives, County Patrol works to help motorists travel safely throughout the County. By making sure the road infrastructure is intact and dangerous goods are transported safely on County roads, risk is managed.

The County maintains roads in good condition through the enforcement of Road Bans and Restricted Bridge Lists while work is being done; overload permit issuing and;  routine truck checks to ensure compliance with appropriate legislation.

Partnerships

The County’s Patrol Division works collaboratively with many other enforcement agencies including the RCMP, the Canadian Pacific Railway Police, Inspection Services of Alberta Transportation, Alberta Fish and Wildlife and other municipal enforcement agencies.

Emergency Management

As rural community, Mountain View County faces unique challenges in terms of distance and geography. These factors can play a critical role in the event of a major disaster scenario. In 2003, Mountain View County’s Disaster Services Team, comprised of regional fire departments, ambulance providers, the RCMP, County Constables, County Public Works staff and hospitals launched a disaster simulation that put the County’s resources and communication skills to the test.

EMS and Fire Services

As a rural community that spans a large and diverse geographic area, Mountain View is exceptionally well serviced with fire protection and ambulance providers. One call to 911 will link you immediately to the appropriate:
  • Ambulance provider
  • Fire authority (there are five fire authorities in the County)
  • 911 call answer from Red Deer and dispatch from Calgary through STARS (We are the only rural community in Alberta dispatched by STARS).

All County Emergency Services (excluding the RCMP) are directly linked by the HUB Radio System which allows for quick and efficient response to emergencies. As well, EMS, Fire, and County Constables are now able to use the County’s Global Information System that:

  • Pinpoints land coordinates and location of accesses to residences, farms and businesses across the County
  • Provides automated vehicle locating
  • Directs emergency responders to locations by providing directions and street addresses for rural sites

Fire departments are resourced with state of the art equipment, highly trained crews, and the latest communication equipment.
