Large arts and heritage festival. If it's artsy, it's here! Celebrating Canada's Sesquicentennial. Scarecrows on Parade, rope making, 100 Years of Hockey! Writers tell a story from a painting; painters paint a picture from a story. Quilt Show & Quilting Bee. Heritage Building Stroll, Try Chalk Art in our "Chalk-a-holics" area. Bringing music to the people on 2 stages, because one stage isn't enough for Central Alberta's finest! Artists at Work, Teddy Bear Strawberry Tea; try playing an instrument. Learn old-time dancing!

Folk and rock evening concert Saturday with JUNO nominee, John Wort Hannam, Lauren & Joal Kamps, Ruth Purves-Smith! Doors open at 6 p.m.

The annual Bearberry Horse Poker Rally for Saturday, September 16th, registration is at 11 am at the Bearberry Community Hall; ride starts at 1 pm, supper is at 4 pm! Streak fry and poker hand is $25, supper only is $20. Must buy supper and hand to be eligible for prizes. No dogs please!

Mountain View BearSmart Society General Meeting

Mountain View BearSmart Society will hold its next general meeting on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Elkton Valley Campground. Pot luck supper and meeting at 5:30 pm.

Anyone interested in joining our society is more than welcome! You don't need to know a lot about bears, just a willingness to learn and to get involved in sharing bear safety information.

Directions: On Highway 22, go to the Elkton Road turnoff (7 miles north of Cremona or 9.5 miles south of Highway 27), go west on Elkton Road for almost 1.5 miles (watch for the campground signs and do not cross the bridge), turn right and follow the road over a couple of cattle guards and past the trailer sites to the registration entrance. The event is held in the large green and white metal sided building.

Phosphorus Watershed Project

You are invited to the Agricultural Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) Tour in Acme Creek Watershed!

This event is open to anyone interested!

The tour will include:

  • An update on the Phosphorus Watershed Project in Acme Creek Watershed
  • Learn about the Alberta Phosphorus Management Tool that is used to assess the risk of phosphorus loss in watersheds
  • Find out what BMPs have been implemented in the watershed to address phosphorus loss (stops will include advanced cattle watering and management, local feedlot innovations, riparian management and more)
  • Get a chance to speak one-on-one with project team members and producers who have particpated so far
  • Also learn more about Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS) funding and projects.

Registration and coffee starts at 9:30 a.m., with events beginning at 10 a.m.

Lunch is provided!
