Land Use Bylaw
Two year process ends with Council's approval on June 30
The review of Mountain View County's Land Use Bylaw is now complete, bringing to a close a process that spanned over two years at a cost of over $262,000.
Council gave third reading to the revised Land Use Bylaw at a Special Council meeting on June 30, the second of two special council meetings held this week to review and consider public input into the bylaw.
According to Reeve Al Kemmere, the approval of the final revisions to the Land Use Bylaw brings to a close an extensive public consultation process.
"Council made 96 amendments to the Land Use Bylaw based on input from open houses and the public hearing," says Reeve Al Kemmere. "This speaks loud and clear that we are listening to the people."
Beginning with the appointment of the steering committee in June of 2008, the public has had the opportunity to review the bylaw at numerous open houses and meetings, and have provided their input on every aspect of the bylaw over the past two years. Two roundtable sessions attracting about 200 people were also held in early 2010, as well as a random phone survey of residents to ensure that all interested individuals were heard.
After receiving first reading on May 26, Council commenced the Public Hearing process for Bylaw No. 10/10 with a two-day public hearing on June 16 and June 19, 2010. About 100 people attended the hearing over the two days, with 26 persons providing verbal submissions.
The Land Use Bylaw is a requirement of the Municipal Government Act and is a document whose purpose is to regulate the use and development of buildings and land within the municipality.
The revised Bylaw No. 10/10, the Land Use Bylaw is now in effect. The approved version of the Land Use Bylaw is available at the County Office, and online.
