Updates for Westward Ho Campground

Council authorizes the Chief Administrative Officer to enter into negotiations with the Westward Ho Campers Association for the operation of the Westward Ho Campground.

January 18, 2012

Council authorizes the CAO to enter into negotiations with Chris Demers and Craig Masley for the operation of the Westward Ho Campground.

Council has also requested that upon completion of negotiations that the proposed contract come back to council for review and ratification.

January 12, 2012

A Request for Proposal was issued November 17th, 2011 by Mountain View County for operation and maintenance of the Westward Ho Campground as a year-round facility for a two year term. Interested parties or individuals had until December 22, 2011 to submit their proposals.

At the January 4, 2012 Mountain View County Council meeting the Westward Ho proposal selection and decision was deferred to the January 18, 2012 Council meeting. It is expected a decision will be made and contract negotiations will begin shortly after, taking a maximum of 30 days to complete.

Currently Westward Ho Campground is closed, there are no facilities open. However, all seasonal campers may gain access to their trailers through the same process as done in previous years. Snow is being cleared along some of the access roads within the campground. County staff will be on site throughout the transition period.

Mountain View County has granted existing seasonal users permission to access the campground. Please be advised that Mountain View County accepts no responsibility and assumes no liability for anyone using the campground while it is closed.

Any reservations, bookings, moves, renewals or new arrangements will be addressed once a new contractor is in place. Annual fees will be collected by the contract operator. Mountain View County will request adequate notice is provided to seasonal users to ensure late fees are not incurred.

It was announced September 23, 2011 that Mountain View County will change the operational structure of the Westward Ho Campground from a year-round facility to a seasonal operation, please be advised these changes will not take effect under the current Request for Proposals that Council is considering. Although currently the park is closed while the County is in transition between operators, the park will re-open once a contractor is in place and will continue to operate Westward Ho Campground as a year round campground.

However, it is still the direction of County Council to have County administration investigate the potential for selling all three lots that comprise the Westward Ho Campground after the two-year term is complete.
