Mountain View County is in the process of developing a Public Participation Policy, something the provincial government is now requiring of all municipalities in the province following updates to the Municipal Government Act in the Autumn of 2017.
This policy must be in place by the end of July 2018, but before Council gives it the final approval, it’s being offered up to our residents for some feedback because you are ultimately the end users of this policy.
What we are asking of our residents is to review the draft policy and offer some comments, but also – if policy review and government talk isn’t your style – to give us some general feedback on the ways, and through which avenues (social media, newspaper, direct mailouts, radio, etc.), you like to receive communications from the County.
Council and staff understand that there is no “one size fits all” style of communications, so your feedback and input will make sure that the County understands the many ways to get information to you, but without being intrusive.
Whether you are all-in on modern tactics like social media or prefer old-school methods like newspaper and word of mouth advertising, we want to hear from you.
Policies like the proposed Public Participation Policy, are used by County Council and Administration to provide direction and organization for the municipality’s day-to-day operations. By formalizing how the County communicates with its residents and other stakeholders, hopes are that the messages and questions the County is trying to broadcast and ask to residents will be sent in the way(s) that get those communications noticed.
This policy also informs County Council and staff that communicating with our residents is a vital function in County programs, initiatives, and other services.
