Fire Permit Reminder for Calgary Forest Protection Area

Mountain View County would like to issue a reminder that there are two regions within the County that fall within the Provincial Forest Protection Area where County fire permits are NOT valid.

For the most part residents within these regions cannot access a fire permit through the County online permit system due to the fact the system will not accept any land locations west of RR 60. This covers the entire portion of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Protection Area (Northwest corner) within Mountain View County.

However, currently our online system does not automatically exclude all properties the Calgary Forest Protection Area that lies within the County boundaries.

If your property (or residence) lies between Range Road 54 and Range Road 60, and between Township Road 310 and Township Road 290 (see map above) you are asked to obtain any and all burning permits by calling the Calgary Forest Area office at 403-297-8800, NOT through the County’s online permit system.

Understand that any County permit for this zone is NOT VALID and will not be honoured by the province, fire dispatch or fire crews.

The County is currently working to update the system to automatically exclude legal land locations within this thin strip. Until that update is complete we are asking any residents, visitors or contractors who need a burning permit in this area to continue obtaining their permits from the Calgary Forest Area office.

It has been the County’s experience that most people in this area already know where to obtain the proper burning permits. We ask that residents continue to do so and pass along that information to visitors and contractors who come to the area.

For clarification please contact the Calgary Forest Area at the number printed above, or call the County’s Community Services Department at 403-335-3311 ext 125.
